Furniture Colours That Match Cozy Autumn Vibes

Incorporate Fall Tones in Your Furniture

It’s that time of year where the colours start changing and the air becomes a little more crisp. It’s also a signal to bring out the chunky knits and cozy slippers. But, do you ever look around your home and feel like you need more grounding pieces of furniture?

Here are some of my favourite transformations that add timeless charm and key grounding elements to a space that transition perfectly into cooler whether - which, lets face it - up here in the north “cool weather” accounts for 70% of our days.

Colours That Ground a Space.

I’m going to start with my favourite. I love charcoals and blacks. They offer a beautiful clean and crisp vibe that also ground a space. Adding a dark coloured piece of furniture as a statement piece can bring all the coziness you need during those cooler months. Pair it with a cozy rug and wood tone accents, and your space instantly becomes inviting.

Some of my favourite colours to use from the Fusion Mineral Paint line include, Coal Black, Ash, and Cast Iron. Paired with some monochromatic hardware like these, and you have a beautiful grounding piece of funiture!

Use Bold Colours

Fall isn’t just about neutrals - bold colours can bring incredible depth and character to your furniture pieces. When paired with the right finishing wax, these rich tones feel sophisticated and layered, rather than overwhelming.

Consider painting your piece in a beautiful Mustard yellow with a rich Aging Wax as a top coat. While mustard yellow can give off bright spring and summer vibes, adding a coat of Aging Wax adds depth and drama with a vintage inspired twist. This colour is perfect for a boho, cozy feel. Pair it with Pampa stems and Macrame hanging, a vintage chair, and some tapered candles with a Snuffer to really lean into a vintage feel.

Another show stopper is a beautiful Highlander Red with Black Wax, or a rich plum purple like Elderberry. These tones give drama in the best way. These colours are stunning as Statement pieces or accent tables without being too “loud”.

My personal favourite when it comes to a colour POP is a gorgeous earthy green. Sage has been trending for years, but going deeper into those rich tones add weight and richness. Style these pieces with a ceramic Black Vase and bunny tails, and you have gorgeous fall foliage.

Lets not rule out moody blues. Colours like Cambridge create a classic statement that transition through any season. Paired with a rich wood tone, and black or copper pulls creates a timeless look. Bold enough to stand out, but deep enough to work in any space.

Use earthy warm wood tones

What else could transition best if you don’t want to paint over that gorgeous wood tone? Those soft neutral earthy wood tones that can make you want to melt. There is something about a beautiful wood grain that tells a story about its history, where its been, and the overall quality of the piece. Check out some of these wood toned pieces.

A method I really love using is adding a paint wash in a taupe colour to achieve many of the looks you see above. If you want to learn more about Paint Washing your furniture, check out my guide!

When it comes to vintage furniture, there are often times I also love keeping original hardware. Although there are times when it needs to be replaced, I am a sucker for drop hoop pulls. If you have a piece with beautiful ornate hardware buy it looks a bit rough around the edges, learn how to refresh vintage hardware so you don’t lose the character it can bring to a timeless piece.
